CO-FOUNDER, MELINK.AI · HOST, WE ARE STILL HUMAN

Software should disappear. People shouldn’t.

I co-founded meLink and host We Are Still Human — the podcast and the movement. Practical, not ideological: the rule is a requirement, and I ship the thing that meets it.

01 — The story

I priced risk before I wrote software.

Phillip Kemp, seated in a chair with his hand to his chin, in an olive blazer and white T-shirt.

Five years pricing agricultural and financial risk at KEMPRO Brokers — futures, options, hedging. I learned to see the downside first.

Employee #3 in a Potchefstroom studio, building an e-learning platform across Africa. Seven years of frontend architecture at BMW's IT Hub.

In 2024 I started building my own. meLink has one rule: the user leads, the technology follows. Then came We Are Still Human and the written rules.

02 — The belief

The layer you never see is the layer that decides.

  • Visible decision

The screen can disappear. The layer that decides has to stay in view.

  • Human in control

We are still human. That is not a sentiment; it is a design constraint.

  • The build is the test.

A position that has not met a real user is a preference; I ship, watch what breaks, and keep what holds.

03 — How I lead

I lead from the downside.

Risk taught me to see what goes wrong before what goes right.

  • Decide with the downside in view.

Being wrong always lands on someone. I make the call, then own what it costs.

  • Make the machine answer to the person.

No ambient listening, no unsolicited action, no dark patterns. I will kill a feature that wins the demo and loses the person.

  • Ship the rule, not the slide.

Written down, each rule is a requirement. A principle with no implementation is a wish.

  • Keep the room human.

I lead teams. People do their best work when they are treated as people, not resources.
